Born and raised in England, Nicola Hawkins received a First Class Honour's BA Degree in Expressive Arts from Brighton Polytechnic in Sussex, and an MA in Dance studies from the Laban Centre for Movement and Dance in London. In 1990, she received a British Academy Award for Research into the Humanities to study the roles of dance in industrialized and non-industrialized cultures.

Nicola Hawkins brings to this event a celebration of the limitless movement possibilities of the body. Drawing inspiration from everyday movements from various peoples she encountered her travels in India, Japan and Senegal, her dance company seeks to break new ground in exploring the possibilities of modern dance.

Jobe is particularly moved by Nicola's grasp of how people in different cultures move when they're doing ordinary things. "This seems appropriate for the Bosch, a painting in which a strong sense of movement is apparent, but without stylization. They are in contorted postures, recumbent or standing, in a way that isn't exactly dance and yet is part of a larger dance. Nicola's choreography sheds light on how we are all part of a larger dance, the great human procession."
